Ministries with the Diocese of Honduras

This year's trip was June 21 - 29th, 2008. Around 60 people went and it was our 10th medical mission trip. Redeemer's clergy representative was the Rev. Sandra Lawrence Etemad.

In April of 1998, five members of Redeemer journeyed to Honduras on a fact finding mission. They met and toured with the Bishop to learn the needs of the people of the Episcopal Diocese in this second poorest country of the Western Hemisphere. The many needs of the young girls of Our Little Roses Home for Girls were apparent during the time spent with the Bishop's wife who had initially organized and now runs the home.

Mission Parishes of Honduras

During the past fifteen years, 65 mission parishes of the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras have come into being, one way or another. Some were originally parishes of other faiths, some were abandoned buildings previously used for other purposes, and some are structures barely standing on the side of a hill. With no government safety nets, no social service agencies, and overwhelming poverty, the church is frequently the only support and the only hope a family has. The amazing thing is the wonderful spirit of these people of God who are undaunted by their almost total lack of resources.

Needs: The parishes of Honduras need prayer books and hymnals in
Spanish, vestments, altar linens, wood for carpentry and other building materials, paint, tables, folding chairs, office supplies and computers. Parishioners can volunteer to serve on the Honduran Ministry Committee and participate in mission trips to help renovate and repair parishes.
