The Church of the Redeemer Habitat for Humanity program began in 1995. The purpose of the program is to rehabilitate houses in the Sandtown Community of Baltimore City in conjunction with the Habitat for Humanity Foundation, a world-wide Christian effort to provide affordable housing for those in need. On most Saturdays, Redeemer volunteers worked with the habitat staff and with the ownership family to complete the house. After completion, the house is dedicated with a celebration. Work on the house is a tangible way to give something back to our communtiy beyond the walls of Redeemer while at the same time developing a sense of community within our parish through our work together. In ten years (1995 - 2005) Redeemer volunteers rehabilitated and dedicated seven houses. The houses and dates of dedication are: 1542 North Stricker Street (1996) During the ten years of the Habitat program it is estimated that 120 members of Redeemer volunteered 8000 labor hours to rehabilitate seven houses. Additionally, Outreach funding was provided for each house. This was a significant contribution to the community.
