Govans
Ecumenical Development Corporation (GEDCO)
Govans Ecumenical Development Corporation, of which Redeemer
is a member, is a nonprofit, community and church based developer and
operator of affordable, service-linked housing and social service programs.
GEDCO programs include:
- Epiphany House, 5610 York Road, offers affordable
and service-linked housing for 33 frail seniors and people with disabilities.
More than 90 volunteers are at the heart of this special housing program.
- CARES, 5502 York Road, is a network of local churches
and social service groups that have pooled their resources to serve
the critical needs of local residents. Food, pharmacy vouchers, and
financial assistance are dispensed along with referrals to resources
that enable and empower people to make changes to improve the long-term
quality of their lives. See page 6 to learn more about Redeemer's role
at CARES.
- Harford House, 517 East North Avenue, provides permanent,
safe housing for twenty-six formerly homeless men. In a supportive community
atmosphere, the men are encouraged and expected to become self-sufficient
up to the level of their ability.
- Micah House, 5207 York Road, will offer permanent
housing and supportive services for men and women who are homeless.
Groundbreaking for Micah House took place on September l, 1998.
Needs: Each of the GEDCO programs has
specific needs from volunteer hours to used books and computers, financial
support to prayers for the participants of the programs.
