Redeemer Advocacy Network

This outreach group doesn’t have meetings! We follow the practice of the national Episcopal Public Policy Network to make our voices heard on current issues. We work during the annual session of the Maryland General Assembly (January – April) and coordinate our efforts with the Bishop’s Deputy for Public Policy. We e-mail out information on a few bills that involve social and environmental issues and you decide whether you want to send an e-mail, write a letter, or make a phone call. We’ll gladly help you get started.

This year the Redeemer Advocacy Network did both education and advocacy. The Bishop’s Deputy for Public Policy, Don Schroeder, spoke at a well-attended Adult Ed session about the Episcopal Church’s advocacy on both the state and federal level. We sent out a letter from Presiding Bishop Katharine Schori about the church’s advocacy for action on the global warming crisis and responsibility for caring for God’s Creation. During the 2008 session of the Maryland General Assembly, we circulated information on several bills to everyone who had signed up to receive Advocacy mailings so individuals could easily take action if they chose to do so. We also made available links to the (national) Episcopal Public Policy Network and the Maryland Episcopal Policy Network so that anyone interested could get further information on our church’s stands on issues facing our state, nation, and world. The network has about 80 members.

Needs: Volunteers are needed to help integrate the efforts of the activists and the advocates who share common interests, and to communicate information to the parish.
