Rector’s Bible Study – Early Church Decisions and Doctrines

The Rector's Bible Study begins on September 10. Our study is the Early Church and its decisions. How did we get from the end of the New Testament to the creedal faith we now practice? We will trace developments of theology and doctrine, and study the first four councils, schisms and creeds. This is a follow up on last years' study of the Apostle Paul, and the curiosity about how his letters became the foundation of the Church's doctrine and faith.

All are welcome, and all you need is your own bible. Study resources are provided. Come when you can, even if you don't make all the sessions. We meet in the Women's Council Room. We are cancelled when the church campus is closed for holidays.

Mondays
10 am to 11:30 am – Women’s Council Room

Monday Study Group 9:30 a.m.
In an atmosphere of good fellowship, get a deeper faith and broader knowledge of scripture through the study topics selected by a consensus group. Leadership is shared, and the texts, while challenging, are chosen with some structure to the format without being too academic. Areas in the past have touched on Psalms, Prophets, Hebrew Scriptures and the four gospel writers as well as contemporary writings with theological themes. For more information, call Nancy Harvey 410-377-5984 or June Finney 410-583-5737.

Tuesday

Study Support and Fellowship 10:00 a.m.
A community of faithful who meet for fellowship, study, support, prayer and laughter. All ages welcome. Contact Brenda Ehlers at 410-955-6510.

Wednesday

Each Wednesday during Lent at 6:00 pm – we have a simple dinner, followed by a program starting at 7:00 pm. Each each week in the series will reflect on a theme that recur throughout Scripture, and in particular how they are reflected in various events of Holy Week. If you are intending to come for dinner, please sign up in advance.

Thursday

10:00 a.m. Thursday Bible Study:

This fall, the Rev. Sandra Lawrence will be convening the Thursday morning Bible study from 10:00 to 11:15 in the Small Dining Room. We're starting with a brief study (4-6 weeks) on Discipleship. Using selections from the Gospels, Exodus, Amos, Micah, Romans and other texts, we'll wrestle with definitions of faith and look at what life can mean for us when it is centered in God and God's will. How are we called to be disciples? What's the connection between faith, belief and discipleship? We'll end with a study of Biblical texts pertaining to the Eucharist as an act of profound discipleship. At the conclusion of this study, we will, as a group, decide on a topic or topics for the remainder of the fall.
