Introducing Faith Under Construction service at
The Church of the Redeemer

What if we could dream up a worship service that would draw people into a new relationship with Jesus and deeper relationships with each other?

What if we could reimagine worship and still provide an authentic spiritual experience? Something that’s relevant to busy people who don’t go to church, yet rooted in the Christian tradition?

What if we could sleep in Sunday mornings?

Good news: it’s all possible!
Introducing Faith Under Construction. Faith is a journey and we’re committed to sharing the road with one another. Come as you are, wherever you may be on the journey. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we’re committed to faithfully searching for them together in the boundless truth of Christ while honoring one another in the process. Starting on Saturday, August 12 at 5 p.m. , this new worship service will offer a unique alternative to the typical Sunday morning experience.

Come join us on this journey.

Q. What’s the worship like?
A.
Casual, relaxed, and intimate. A band with guitar, keyboard, singers and drums sets a distinctive tone, as voices lift in praise. An altar covered with a festive cloth draws people together in a semi-circle, letting people see and hear each other better than in the usual setting with church pews.

We have found that there is much vigor and life in the ancient rituals of the church and yet we are insistent that we must have an eye toward the now.

This service is traditional without being stuffy and contemporary without being trite. Our worship is rooted, relevant, and real.

Q. When and where does the service start?
A.
It begins weekly on Saturday August 12 at 5 p.m. in the parish hall. We give this gift to all of Baltimore starting on Saturday September 9.

Q. How is the service rooted in the Christian tradition?
A.
We honor the beauty and mystery of historic Christianity, while remaining open to the Holy Spirit’s call to worship today. It is a complete service with all the regular elements of a worship service, including music, prayers, sermon and communion.

Q. Who comes to the service?
A.
We seek to be a mosaic of diversity, a celebration of God’s unique creation. The service draws different people -- married and single, in their 20s and in their 50s, with small children or with friends and partners.

Q. How is the service family friendly?
A.
Children are a most valued part of our community. We welcome them to join us for worship, even if there’re restless and noisy. We encourage their participation and joyful noise with a comfy kid’s area strewn with music makers and toy instruments. A soft rug and rocking chair make this a great space for the littlest angels while their parents are able to worship close by.

Q. Why is the Church of the Redeemer starting this service?
A.
Jesus commands us to go and make disciples. This alternative to traditional Sunday morning worship seeks to draw seekers into a community of faith who, for one reason or another, normally wouldn’t come to church.

The invitation is open! But most of all, we invite you to open yourself to the wonderful truth that God loves you and created you for a purpose, and that you might discover all of that here with us.
